Memorial for Misty by Brad Johnson

Misty - a fine cat and an excellent friend and companion

Formally named “Mystique”, my cat Misty died on 16 September 2010. She was 17 years old and a few months. With smoke-colored fur and green eyes, she was remarkably beautiful – and she was fully aware of this. Despite her justifiable pride in her loveliness, Misty was a good and loyal cat.

She was my friend and companion.

Misty caught mice, chased chipmunks, and soaked up copious amounts of sunshine. She prowled through the night, chasing away monsters. She fought many battles, both real and imagined. She could be gloriously fierce and delightfully tender.

When I was deathly ill, Misty stayed with me and helped me back to health. I did my best to comfort my furry friend while she was dying and she passed without pain. She couldn’t eat or walk during her last day, but she seemed to take comfort from being held and stroked. Misty died bravely, passing quietly.

I pray to the Lady Freya that she accept Misty into Folkvang. Misty was always brave and loyal and she was a particularly good, noble cat. I hope she is allowed the joy of a glorious life in Sessrumnir, the Goddess Freya’s hall. Misty loves meat of all sorts, but she is a polite cat and has good manners.

There are two stories on this web site about Misty meeting the Goddess Freya. They show something of her mischievous but caring personality.

If you can spare a prayer for this fine pussycat, that would be a kindness.

Goodbye my friend. I love you.
